Before you dive in, it's important to get to know the people you'll be working with. A yearbook team runs smoother when everyone feels connected, comfortable, and ready to collaborate. Here are some fun team-building activities that are perfect for breaking the ice, sparking creativity, and building the kind of vibe that makes working together way more fun.
TWO TRUTHS & A LIE
Each person shares two true facts and one made-up one about themselves. The rest of the team guesses which one’s the lie. It’s a classic, and always good for laughs!
YEARBOOK BINGO
Make a bingo card with fun prompts like “Has designed a spread before,” “Loves photography,” or “Can name all the fonts on the Friesens poster.” First to get a line wins a prize!
CAPTION THIS!
Show a random photo (school-related or totally silly) and have everyone write a caption. Share them out loud...funniest one wins!
DESIGN CHALLENGE: BLIND LAYOUT
Split into pairs. One person describes a layout idea while the other sketches it without seeing the photo or text. Then compare the results!
"WHAT'S YOUR FONT" PERSONALITY MATCH
Everyone picks a font that matches their personality and explains why. Are you bold like Impact or chill like Garamond?
SPREAD SPEED DATING
Rotate around the room and spend 2 minutes chatting with each teammate about your favorite yearbook theme, layout idea, or photo moment.
YEARBOOK SUPERLATIVES
Create fun superlatives for each team member like “Most Likely to Add Too Many Fonts” or “Best Eye for Layout Balance.”
THEME BRAINSTORM JAM
Break into small groups and come up with wild or serious yearbook theme ideas. Then pitch them to the rest of the team. Bonus points for creativity!
MEMORY LANE
Everyone brings a photo from a past school year and shares the story behind it. Great way to spark layout ideas and get personal.
TEAM PLAYLIST
Build a collaborative playlist with songs that represent your team’s vibe. Play it during work sessions to keep the energy up!
